Additional Info
Students today face so many demands. Keeping up with everything—work, school, relationships, family responsibilities, and self-care—takes effort and energy. If a student feels overwhelmed, sad, or anxious, completing their to-do list is even harder. CAPS provides a range of online and in-person programs to help students get the resources they need to succeed and feel better.
Mental Health Outreach and Support
Your donation can support programs like Fresh Check Day, which uses different activities to encourage student conversations about mental health. Recent attendees reported an increased likelihood in asking for help, a greater understanding of suicide warning signs, and more awareness of all the mental health resources available to them at IU Indianapolis.
Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Response
Your donation can support opportunities like the Prevention Peer Education Program, allowing more IU Indianapolis students to get trained in effective bystander intervention skills, consent, healthy relationships, and more.
Interpersonal violence is classified as a public health crisis by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to IU Indianapolis’ most recent Campus Climate Survey, rates of interpersonal violence remain high among our campus community members.
In response, CAPS developed the Prevention Peer Education Program to allow students to lead the way in changing campus culture. The program has already provided over 60 advocacy sessions to students in need and reached over 2,000 students, faculty, and staff in its first semester of availability—and we know we can do more.
Group Therapy
Your donation can positively impact more students by supporting CAPS initiatives like group therapy programming and outreach on campus.
According to recent survey data for the Coping 101 group therapy sessions, 100 percent of respondents said they found the group helpful, and 96 percent said the topics were relevant to why they came to the sessions.
We know group therapy is an effective option in helping students feel less alone, because it gives them a safe space to relate to others who understand what they might be going through. In addition, group therapy equips students with important skills that can enhance their overall well-being and academic success.
Your giving matters
I love group [therapy] and I am so glad that it's still offered at IU Indianapolis. It is an experience that I can't get anywhere else, and I truly appreciate being able to participate. Group has helped me grow so much, and I am the person I am today because of a combination of individual therapy and group therapy.
