Additional Info
There has never been a more exciting or essential time to be involved in public health. We face extraordinary challenges—global pandemics, unsustainable health care costs, supply shortages, turbulent economic and political climates, and so many more. Furthermore, our students at the Fairbanks School of Public Health face unique obstacles unlike any other in history as they work toward an education with exorbitant financial barriers hindering their college experience.
- 41% of FSPH students had some level of unmet financial need in the last academic year
- $3,000 is the financial burden preventing some students from completing a degree
- 32% of recent FSPH students were first-generation college students
The FSPH Alumni Board Scholarship helps support college students facing financial challenges that keep them from finishing their college education. Our curriculum ensures that students develop essential skills—such as critical thinking, communication, and problem solving—that prepare them for demanding careers in health care and public health. By supporting this scholarship, you will ensure that bright and deserving students can take full advantage of all that the Fairbanks School of Public Health has to offer, as well as overcome the financial burden of pursing higher education.
Your giving matters
I am a first-generation college student. Since my senior year of high school, I have worked over 30 hours every week in the hope of saving enough money to afford higher education. [Scholarships like these] allow me to continue my education without putting even more of a financial burden on my family . . . I am so grateful for that.
