Additional Info

Jamshid Mehran was a professor of finance in the Judd Leighton School of Business and Economics at IU South Bend. He also served as chair of the finance department.

Mehran received the Legacy Award from the IU South Bend Alumni Association in 2013. The award recognizes full-time or retired faculty members who have made a significant impact on the lives of students at IU South Bend. Nominations for the award come from faculty, staff, and alumni. Mehran's nomination cited his commitment to and love of the field of finance: “Professor Mehran has provided encouragement and advice to many students. His research has been woven into class, adding an extra benefit to his students.”

Tracey Anderson, one of Mehran's colleagues, went on to note, “Dr. Mehran did not just focus on the faculty in his discipline or the students in his classes. He viewed his job as much more than that. Regarding students, he often mentored students who were not currently in his courses. This led many students to become his students in subsequent semesters. Dr. Mehran’s area of expertise was finance and mine was accounting. Despite that, he served as my faculty mentor. He was the ultimate giver of his time and himself."

Anyone who knew Professor Mehran and worked or studied with him can attest to the incredible man and great talent that he was. He created an amazing legacy through his longstanding effort and made a positive difference in the lives of so many IUSB students and alumni. Thank you for honoring his contributions by supporting future business leaders!

Professor Mehran was 'The Founding Father of the Finance Major at IUSB.' At a time when finance courses were offered, but the finance major was not established, he went out of his way to add finance courses and offer independent finance studies, so that those who wished to meet the requirements of becoming a finance major could do so. As the leader of the department, his relentless efforts were vital to the eventual establishment of the finance major.
