According to Professor Hossein Hakimzadeh, chair of the computer science department at IU South Bend, two people have played a central role in the creation and development of the department: Professor John P. Russo and Professor William J. Knight.
Throughout his career at IU South Bend, Dr. Russo was a mentor to thousands of computer science and mathematics students. Furthermore, he was a mentor to numerous faculty members in our department. His lecture notes, laboratory examples, and tutorials are widely used by instructors in several courses. Professor Emeritus Russo passed away on June 5, 2022.
The John P. Russo Scholarship was established to honor Dr. Russo’s achievements and his pursuit of excellence. Income from gifts to this endowed fund shall be used for financial assistance to support undergraduate and graduate students majoring in computer and information sciences at IU South Bend.
