Additional Info
The Freedom Summer Class is a 3-credit study tour of the Civil Rights Movement in the South taught through IU South Bend. Freedom Summer goes to such places as the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, Georgia; across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama; through the Mississippi Delta with a stop in Indianola; and many others. At each stop, students can visualize history unfolding in the places where it happened, touring museums and historic sites and meeting people whose actions in the movement serve as important lessons for today’s civil rights struggles.
Students march in the footsteps of activists, dialogue with Civil Rights leaders, and visit museums, monuments, and churches. They are immersed in the current and past culture of social change. While connecting with past organizers and historic sites, students are inspired to engage in community action.
Thank you for helping tomorrow's leaders learn and grow through this invaluable experience!
