The Great 8 Scholarship was established after eight Black women emerged as successful graduates of the doctoral program in the IU School of Education at IU Indianapolis. This accomplishment was unprecedented at the time. The women used the momentum of their success to create a scholarship that would support other women of color aspiring to careers in the academy.

The Great 8 Scholarship is intended to support graduate students who have been accepted into the doctoral program at the IU School of Education at IU Indianapolis. Your gifts will support scholarships for full-time PhD candidates who are in good academic standing.

As part of Indiana University's mission and commitment to diversity, special consideration will be given to underrepresented populations, including but not limited to financially challenged students, and/or students with diverse cultural experiences. In July 2024, IUPUI will become Indiana University Indianapolis and will no longer be affiliated with Purdue University. The Indiana University Foundation, Inc. will update all fund titles and fund descriptions for IUPUI funds to reflect this change, and funds intended for Purdue’s School of Engineering and Technology will be transferred to Purdue under the agreement between IU and Purdue. Until July 2024, gifts to this fund will continue to be administered by the Indiana University Foundation, Inc., on behalf of IUPUI.
