Spirit and Place Fund

We're shaped by the places we come from and shape those places in turn. Your support of Spirit & Place can help fuel that progress. More than 60 percent of our annual budget comes from community contributions. That support enables us to hold events—including our annual festival—that connect the community through arts, humanities, and religion. With your help, we can continue to build relationships, programs, and opportunities that address and reflect community needs and values.

Additional Info

In an era defined by division and disconnection, Spirit & Place stands as a model of civic pluralism—an initiative that bridges differences through the shared languages of the arts, humanities, and religion. Housed on the campus of Indiana University Indianapolis, Spirit & Place believes that these civic tools are essential for nurturing connection, empathy, and belonging.

For three decades, Spirit & Place has created spaces where people from every background—artists and scholars, policymakers, faith leaders, and neighbors—come together to wrestle with big questions and celebrate what binds us. Our annual festival and year-round civic programs invite participants to see one another not as strangers, but as collaborators in the work of democracy.

By fostering creative dialogue and honoring the community’s collective wisdom, Spirit & Place strengthens the civic fabric of Central Indiana. Furthermore, it reminds us that belonging is not born of sameness, but of curiosity, courage, and the willingness to engage across difference.

Thank you for your generous support!

Your giving matters

It’s always been a remarkable opportunity to explore the arts, religion, and humanities together at the Spirit & Place Festival. As humans, our well-being and understanding of one another depends on those three things. Spirit & Place for so many years has allowed us to explore that intersection in a way that brings meaning, significance, and deeper understanding.
