Alan Smith Little 500 Bicycle Mechanic Fund

Indiana University Student Foundation General

Since 1951, thousands of IU students have benefited from their participation as riders, coaches, and organizers of the Little 500. One of Indiana University’s most time-honored traditions, Little 500 is a weekend of relay bike races battled out over hundreds of laps around the cinder track at Bloomington’s Bill Armstrong Stadium. Through it all, the most essential piece of equipment is, of course, the bicycle.

Additional Info

As you might imagine, the life of a Little 500 bicycle is a rough one. Little 500 extends beyond “the world’s greatest college weekend,” too. There are related cycling activities throughout the fall and spring, plus the countless miles that teams spend riding for practice and conditioning.

Having a dedicated mechanic is essential to keeping hundreds of Little 500 bikes in safe, working order throughout the year. Income from gifts to this endowed fund will be used for the general support of the Little 500 Bicycle Mechanic position. Please help support this role that is vital to the success and safety of Little 500 and all the IU students who participate. Thank you!
