Additional Info

Riders compete in the Men's Little 500 race at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

Michael Erickson, son of former IU Student Foundation (IUSF) Director Rita Erickson Barrett, battled leukemia until passing away the summer before he was to attend IU. Mike earned a walk-on spot on the IU Hoosiers baseball team and was a star baseball player at Bloomington South High School, where he set the school record for the most home runs in a single season. Despite facing numerous obstacles, he showed perseverance and enjoyed life to the fullest.

Billed as “The World’s Greatest College Weekend” and organized by the IUSF, the Little 500 is the largest collegiate bike race in the United States. Modeled after the Indianapolis 500, riders compete in four-person teams around a quarter-mile cinder track at Bill Armstrong Stadium on the IU Bloomington campus in front of more than 25,000 fans.
