Additional Info
Longtime IU men’s basketball coach Bob Knight believed strongly in libraries. Throughout his nearly 30 years at IU, Knight emphasized student success for his players and all students.
In 1976, when Knight had been at Indiana University for just five years, he began bringing attention and support to the needs of the libraries at IU Bloomington. In 1987, he helped the IU Libraries complete a "Challenge Grant" campaign to match funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities. And in 1990, the Bob Knight Library Endowment campaign was launched, garnering direct support from Coach Knight, the basketball program, and thousands of gifts given to recognize the legendary coach.
Since the establishment of this fund, the income from gifts has been used to purchase books, digitize collections, provide equipment, fund scholarships, and much more. For example, one vital way that this fund has been used is to support the IU Libraries Undergraduate Scholars, a four-year scholarship that provides students with a job at IU Libraries and a small stipend each semester.
Thank you for supporting this critical, campus-wide resource for IU Bloomington!
Your giving matters
Nothing about our university has impressed me more than the library, simply because it is the instrument of our university that is unquestionably most meaningful and most helpful to the largest number of students.
