It provides infrastructure and services to support the IU community in creating, sharing, and preserving their scholarly work.

The Scholarly Communication Department focuses on transforming the scholarly communications’ landscape in academia. 

Projects within the department include:

  • Consultations and programs in Open Educational Resources to assist instructors in creating and sharing affordable course materials.
  • Pedagogical instruction that introduces students to scholarly communications with the culminating task of publishing their own work.
  • Supporting students throughout their academic career with a range of services such as consultations, in-class instruction, and the Black Women’s Research Community, which offers an intensive, full-year support system to help new graduate students on their research path.
  • Data services such as data literacy instruction and data management planning.
  • Open access journals including The IU Journal of Undergraduate Research, The Hoosier Science Teacher, and Digest: A Journal of Foodways and Culture.
  • Operating three repositories: IUScholarWorks, IUScholarWorks Open, and IU Data Core.
