In addition to research and interpretation, the Center for Underwater Science aims to train and educate new and experienced divers alike to positively interact with the underwater world, educating them about both the natural world and our cultural heritage.
Since the mid 1980s, Indiana University Underwater Science has been at the forefront of underwater cultural and biological resource management in the United States and the Caribbean. The Center for Underwater Science has longstanding, collaborative relationships with a number of national and international agencies, including but not limited to: the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Parks Service, California State Parks, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Florida State Parks, Lake Michigan Coastal Program, Dominican Republic Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Environment, Armenian National Academy of Science, University of Southampton, the Explorer's Club, the Our World Underwater Scholarship Society, and the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism.
The Indiana University Center for Underwater Science is associated with a range of degrees that can be customized depending on the student. Through the School of Public Health, the Center for Underwater Science and Academic Diving Program offer a certificate in Underwater Resource Management. Additionally, majors and minors relating to Underwater Science in a variety of topics may be added through the Individualized Major Program or the Individualized Minor Program, respectively.
