2026 IU Day Social Work Campaign

By Social Work

Social work students face the increasing cost of higher education, with national data showing that BSW graduates carry an average of $29,323 in debt and MSW graduates nearly $46,591. Your gift to the endowed IUSSW Alumni Association Scholarship reduces that financial strain and allows high‑achieving students with documented financial need to stay focused on their education and service to the community. With your help, we can continue providing this critical support to students across the BSW, MSW, and PhD programs who are committed to academic excellence and making a difference in the lives of others.

Social work students are not exempt from the rising cost of higher education, and many graduate carrying significant debt—$29,323 for BSW graduates and $46,591 for MSW graduates on average. These financial pressures are especially challenging for students completing field placements, balancing jobs, and caring for their families. The endowed IUSSW Alumni Association Scholarship directly eases this burden by supporting students with documented financial need who also demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, ranking in the top 10 percent of their class, and a strong commitment to service within the School of Social Work or their broader communities.

Gifts from donors like you make a profound difference—helping students stay enrolled, reduce financial anxiety, afford essential academic expenses, and remain focused on their path to becoming social workers who strengthen individuals, families, and communities. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, this scholarship has been awarded year after year, opening doors for BSW, MSW, and PhD students. Your gift today ensures that we can continue empowering the next generation of social workers, whose dedication to service is needed now more than ever.
