Last year on IU Day, we set out with a goal of digitizing a single decade of the IDS from the 1950s. The response on IU Day and beyond allowed us to expand our goal, and we were able to digitize 1949-1973. Thank you to everyone who supported us last year!
We currently have April 1973 through April 1983 prepped—and work is ongoing. With a cost of about one dollar per page, our goal is to digitize the IDS in its entirety. Will you help support our mission to digitize a decade or more this IU Day?
Thanks to the generosity of two donors, every gift you make will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000. After countless hours looking through IDS microfilm for articles on extramural field hockey, IU's first intercollegiate sport for women, these donors easily recognized the enormous contribution digitizing the IDS will make to anyone who wants to delve into IU's past. They grew eager to support the goal of moving IDS digitization forward.
IU Archives has already unlocked a treasure trove of history through their digitization efforts. Right now, researchers, students, and curiosity-seekers have online access to newspapers from the 1930s and 1940s. This seemingly small project has broad global reach, and the transformation was fueled by the unwavering support of donors like you who recognize the value of preserving our heritage.
By supporting the inaugural project of the Mary Brown Craig University Archives Special Project Fund today, you’ll help ensure that all generations have the opportunity to explore and learn from IU's vibrant past. Thanks to your support, people the world over will have access to decades of IU history, including the IDS.
