In 2019, as part of our museum’s grand reopening, we conducted condition reports on many of our cherished objects. One of the most beloved pieces, George Segal’s Girl Washing Hair at Sink, was struck from reinstallation after a thorough evaluation. She had become a favorite of visitors and educators alike, but we soon discovered that she needed more care than we initially realized.

Thanks to the expertise of IU Health, we were able to use advanced CT scans to get a precise diagnosis of her condition. The scan revealed that the sculpture requires specialized treatment to ensure she can continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.

As a museum with over 47,000 objects in our collection, we take great pride in caring for every piece. But this treatment requires funding, and we need your help. Will you join us in supporting this restoration effort with a gift to help pay for the necessary care for invaluable works like these?

Your contribution can impact the preservation of Segal’s masterpiece and allow us to reintroduce it to the public with confidence that it will remain part of the educational and cultural experience we provide.

Thank you for considering this important cause. With your support, we can ensure that works of art such as Girl Washing Hair at Sink is given the treatment she needs to continue inspiring visitors for years to come.
