Students Helping Students

By Indiana University Student Foundation General

For the 2024 Students Helping Students campaign, we are proud to announce our partnership with the Office of the Chief Health Officer. Together, we are on a mission to destigmatize mental health care on the IU Bloomington campus.

Here’s how you can help! In honor of IUSF’s 75th anniversary, we're calling on 750 students to donate $5 to support this initiative. All gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000. That means your donation can generate twice the support for student mental health.

Campus life can become overwhelming for us. We study, we sleep, we connect, and sometimes we fall short. But we should remember that caring for our mental health and well-being will really help us along the journey.

Research shows that 77 percent of U.S. college students experience mental health challenges and emotional distress. But get this: While students acknowledge suffering from mental health challenges, a lot of us don’t seek out help due to a fear of judgment, and a lack of mental health care understanding.

So this year, the Indiana University Student Foundation has chosen mental health care as the focus of its annual Students Helping Students (SHS) campaign. We’re partnering with the Office of the Chief Health Officer to help destigmatize getting help when you need it.

Now, we know what you’re thinking: “Can I really make a difference?” The answer is a definite “yes”—in lots of different ways.

1. Donate $5. In honor of IUSF’s 75th anniversary, we’re calling on 750 students to donate $5 to support this initiative. A $5 donation could simply be skipping our morning latte or a late-night snack. We can do it!

2. Attend Little 500. For every Little 500 ticket purchased, $1 will go toward this campaign.

3. Tell your friends. By simply sharing the campaign—use #IUSHS2024—you’ll raise awareness of the importance of mental health care, help make more resources available, and destigmatize getting help.

Thank you for your support!
