Students Helping Students

By Indiana University Student Foundation General

The Indiana University Student Foundation (IUSF), together with our campus partner the Office of Student Life, is focused on destigmatizing mental health care at IU Bloomington. However, we can’t do it alone. Here is how you can help: We’re calling on 1,000 students to donate $5 to the Students Helping Students (SHS) campaign. Even better, your impact will be doubled—every gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $20,000.

Let’s face it: The stress of college can take a toll on students’ mental health. We study, we sleep, we connect, and sometimes we fall short. But we should remember that caring for our mental health and well-being will help us along the journey.

Research shows that 77 percent of U.S. college students experience mental health challenges and emotional distress. But get this: While students acknowledge suffering from mental health challenges, many do not seek help due to a fear of judgment and a lack of mental health care understanding.

Therefore, IUSF is focusing the 2025 SHS campaign on supporting mental health care on campus. We want to destigmatize getting help when you need it.

Your gift to SHS could support critical tools and initiatives such as:

  • Awareness campaigns about the importance of seeking help when you’re going through a difficult time
  • Additional resources for campus counseling programs
  • Educational efforts around substance use and management, and how to cultivate habits that contribute to a healthy body and mind
  • And more!

There are ways for everyone to pitch in and help us make an impact:

1. Donate $5 and see it matched! IUSF is challenging 1,000 students to donate $5 to support this initiative. A $5 donation could simply be skipping a morning latte or a late-night snack. We can do it! All gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $20,000. That means your donation can generate twice the support for student mental health.

2. Attend Little 500. For every Little 500 ticket purchased, $1 will go toward this campaign.

3. Tell your friends. By simply sharing the campaign using #IUSHS2025, you’ll raise awareness of the importance of mental health care, help make more resources available, and destigmatize getting help.

Thank you for your support!
