Additional Info
The John P. Donohue Fund honors one of Indiana University School of Medicine’s most respected physicians, surgeons, and teachers. Donohue joined IU in 1965 and became chair of the Department of Urology in 1971.
Over his career, he pioneered life-saving surgical methods for treating testicular cancer—collaborating with Dr. Larry Einhorn, BA’65, to transform a once-fatal disease into one of the most curable forms of cancer. Donohue’s approach to retroperitoneal lymph node dissection set the international standard for testicular cancer surgery and improved survival rates worldwide.
Donohue also played a key role in mentoring and training generations of urologists, instilling the same dedication to patients and scientific discovery that defined his own work. Under his leadership, IU’s Department of Urology gained international recognition for research and innovation in men’s health, urologic cancers, and minimally invasive surgery.
This endowed fund supports a full-time faculty member in the Department of Urology who continues Donohue’s mission. Gifts help to fund research, teaching, professional development, and other needs of an active scholar and educator.
Contributions to the John P. Donohue Fund ensure that IU’s Department of Urology remains a place of discovery and healing. Donors help preserve a legacy of care that has changed lives across Indiana and around the world—carrying forward Donohue’s belief that excellent teaching and great science lead to great medicine. Thank you for your generous support!
