Additional Info
The Diversity Scholars Program gives undergraduate students a paid opportunity to learn about library science through a mentored program that rotates each student through various aspects of library operations, such as acquisitions, collection development, archives, and bibliographic services. The program seeks to foster research, international study, service learning, and workplace/community experiential learning. The collections, exhibits, and events created by our diversity scholars help our students, faculty, staff, and community users become better informed about the world and their place in it.
Past diversity scholars projects include:
- Organizing a lending library for a community center in La Lagunilla (Mexico City)
- Installing a public exhibit focused on the cultures and history of China and Southwest Asia
- Digitizing scholarly and cultural materials in 2D and 3D formats and creating descriptive metadata for them
- Archiving data from the historic Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church
- Creating metadata for the OBAT Helpers digital collection (OBAT Helpers is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting displaced and disadvantaged refugee populations.)

University Library is where I learned that colleges and universities, especially college libraries, are instrumental in shaping lives by providing access to the information that helps broaden perspectives on and deepen our connections to our communities.
