McKinney School of Law Moot Court

Robert H. McKinney School of Law

IU McKinney Law’s Moot Court Program is essential in providing students with practical experience outside the classroom setting. Here, they are put to the test as they compete against their fellow classmates to construct written and verbal arguments to defend their case. Moot Court also creates unique networking opportunities as students are introduced to volunteers from the Indiana legal community who assist with the competition.

Additional Info

By providing broad, flexible support for the IU McKinney Law Moot Court Program, your gift supports the skill development of emerging legal professionals. The program challenges students to construct written briefs and present verbal arguments to a panel of judges. As a result, students can truly test their legal knowledge and develop practical skills that cannot be tested in the classroom.

This experience is incredibly valuable for the growth of our law students and meaningful for those that are able to volunteer. Students who finish in the top 25 percent are admitted to the Order of the Barristers and will advance to the McKinney Law Barrister’s Tournament, which also makes them eligible for national and international moot court competitions.

Although Moot Court is difficult, it is an enjoyable time for our students, faculty, staff, and volunteers. Thank you for supporting this vital, career-shaping program!

Your giving matters

Students will tell me how much Moot Court helped them overcome their fear of presenting an oral argument or some lack of confidence they had in themselves in presenting the argument. And in fact, many students come to realize that they love presenting oral arguments.
