Larry D. Singell was the executive dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 2011-2019. His tenure was a time of remarkable change and progress. As executive dean, he grew the College to include three new schools: the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, The Media School, and the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design. He also helped to create many new academic degrees, 900 new undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships, and 25 newly established faculty professorships and chairs.

Dean Singell was also pivotal in the creation of the Walter Center for Career Achievement. The center aims to empower every Arts and Sciences student to turn their diverse talents and passions into successful and rewarding careers. Singell believes that career development is a fundamental component of an Arts and Sciences education. This fund supports that belief and helps students gain real-world experience in their career development journey.

In 2019, Singell received the highest honor an Indiana University president can bestow, the President’s Medal for Excellence, which honored his service to the university.
