
Lawrence M. Blatt earned his BS in microbiology from Indiana University and went on to found Alios BioPhrama, where he served as president and CEO through its successful growth overseeing the research and development of antiviral therapies for the treatment of respiratory diseases. Blatt’s research led to the development of an antiviral therapy for the respiratory syncytial virus, a potentially fatal disease affecting infants.
When establishing this fund, Blatt shared, "It is my hope that the funding provided can continue the strong tradition of leadership at Indiana University in the areas of microbiology, virology, and biochemistry and that future work will lead to treatments and potential cures for devastating diseases."
Students receiving this scholarship must meet specific requirements to receive funding, such as: having secured an internship at a life sciences company or research center; a demonstrated interest in biotechnology and/or drug discovery and development; and more.
