The Harriet Sisson and Letha Stewart Student Emergency Fund was created to honor the mothers of Adam and Karen Sisson; Adam is an MPA’86 graduate of the O’Neill School. Both of their mothers cared deeply about education. Adam’s mother, Harriet Sisson, went back to college after her children left home and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in history at age 62. Karen’s mother, Letha Stuart, is a retired schoolteacher who taught mostly in disadvantaged neighborhoods in and around eastern Los Angeles County. With them in mind, this emergency fund was established to support O'Neill School students on the Bloomington campus by offering crucial financial aid during trying times.

This fund is designed to assist students facing unexpected financial challenges that could hinder their educational journey. Whether it's a single mother struggling to balance childcare and coursework, a student dealing with a sudden medical expense, or someone facing an urgent housing issue, your support can make a significant difference. By alleviating these financial burdens, you enable students to concentrate on their academic and professional goals without the added stress of financial instability.
