The IUMAA advances the university’s educational mission and shares the human stories behind the collections in our care.
We are committed to reconnecting our collections with the communities that originally created them and imbued them with meaning. We strive to elevate descendant community knowledge and perspectives, making these underrepresented voices accessible to both academic audiences and the broader public. By creating opportunities for descendant communities to engage with their material heritage and share their stories in their own words, we work to address past harms, rebuild trust, and foster a more cohesive understanding of humanity’s shared history and culture.
Your gift to this fund supports a wide range of museum needs and activities, including student scholarships, immersive K-12 curriculum, and more. For instance, meaningful community-based research requires time, dedication, and sustained support. Gifts to this fund can contribute to collaborative, community-sourced research projects carried out by museum staff and IU students. These research projects and resulting exhibitions are incredible opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience with community-based collections research, museum curation, and exhibition development.
This is just one example of the impact made possible by your support. Join us in educating the next generation, providing scholarships to aspiring museum professionals, funding research essential for documenting humanity’s history, and more.
Thank you for your support!
Scholarship funding from the IUMAA allowed me to attend the IU Archaeology Field School for a second time, where I gained new skills and took on additional responsibilities as a returning student. Being in the field has made it much easier to connect what I'm learning in the classroom to the real world, and seeing the entire process firsthand has helped me grow both as a student and as a future museum professional.
