We are committed to reconnecting our collections with the communities that originally created them and imbued them with meaning. We strive to elevate descendant community knowledge and perspectives, making these underrepresented voices accessible to both academic audiences and the broader public. By creating opportunities for descendant communities to engage with their material heritage and share their stories in their own words, we work to address past harms, rebuild trust, and foster a more cohesive understanding of humanity’s shared history and culture.

Scholarship funding from the IUMAA allowed me to attend the IU Archaeology Field School for a second time, where I gained new skills and took on additional responsibilities as a returning student. Being in the field has made it much easier to connect what I'm learning in the classroom to the real world, and seeing the entire process firsthand has helped me grow both as a student and as a future museum professional.
