Established at the Hamilton Lugar School in 2018, 21JPSI serves as a unique hub and forum for vital conversations and student and public engagements about the importance of Japan and U.S.-Japan relations to the Midwest, the United States, and the wider world. Not only is Japan America’s "indispensable ally" as U.S. leaders tackle a complex array of foreign policy challenges in the Indo-Pacific region, it is also—by far—the leading foreign investor in Indiana, the Midwest, and the United States overall.
Your gift to 21JPSI will help sustain and expand its mission—unique in the Midwest—to create opportunities for IU students and the wider community to engage with thought leaders, current and former policymakers, and scholars about Japan’s role in the world, its alliance with the U.S., and its deep ties to Indiana and the U.S. heartland. Gifts will support a wide range of educational and outreach activities, including but not limited to:
Such opportunities are typically only available to students studying in Washington, D.C., or on the East and West Coasts. Your support will help level the playing field and create unique opportunities otherwise unavailable to the IU community, students above all.
21JPSI aims not only to help educate students while they are on campus but also to inspire them to become the next generation of leaders of the U.S.-Japan relationship across all fields—from business and diplomacy to local government and civil society.
If you are considering a larger gift that could be used to permanently endow a faculty position, event series, or contemporary Japan or U.S.-Japan relations-focused research institute, please contact the Hamilton Lugar School’s development office at hlsdev@iu.edu.
Thank you for your generous support!
