Additional Info

The Elizabeth Sage Historic Costume Collection is named for Elizabeth Sage, the first professor of Clothing and Textiles at Indiana University. Upon Sage’s arrival on the Bloomington campus in 1913, she utilized her personal collection of clothing and textiles—including family pieces—as teaching examples, adding to them during her summer travels abroad. This small collection was donated to Indiana University in 1937 upon her retirement.

Your gift to this fund will support ongoing activities and projects related to the collection, such as:

  • Object preservation, research, and conservation through the purchase of archival supplies, tools, and equipment
  • Exhibitions and programming, making it possible for us to share our objects with students, faculty, and the public
  • Hands-on learning opportunities for students pursuing fashion history, fashion design, costume design, studio arts, and museum studies

Thank you for your generous support!
