More Info

For the past ten years, IU Day has become a day to show your Hoosier Pride on campus, online, and in your hometown as a small way to celebrate Indiana University. We hope that you will continue that spirit this IU Day by celebrating with a gift supporting the John Whittenberger Society (JWS) Fund. Year after year, the JWS Advisory Board works alongside Union Board leaders to ensure that we continue to support the critical needs of UB and the IMU. This year, Chris Klapheke and David Miller have stepped forward with individual gifts of $5,000 each to challenge other alumni to support Union Board and the work of the IMU. We appreciate their generosity and hope it will inspire others to give this year.

In recent years, the fund has helped with student professional development to help and inspire Union Board directors to envision new ways of doing programs and learn how to do their jobs better, as well as to allow Union Board to purchase art for the IMU Collection that speaks to today's students. Last year, with money allocated from the JWS Fund we sent several Union Board students to the International  Entertainment Buyers Association Conference in Nashville and the ACUI Conference in Pittsburgh; in other recent years we have sent students involved with film to the Sundance Film Festival. These conferences have become a vital tool for the students to spread their wings to bigger and bolder initiatives. And none of them would happen without your generosity.

The Art Initiative was launched with the support of the JWS Fund; once Union Board leaders demonstrated the impact of that work, more students came forward who wanted to help, and they were able to secure other funding and to continue that work. Last year, students from the Canvas Creative Arts Committee made multiple trips to Indianapolis to tour artists’ galleries and once again headed to the Butter Fine Art Fair. None of that would have happened without the seed money from the JWS Fund.

Please join David and Chris in giving to the John Whittenberger Society for IU Day!
