Join the American Legion Auxiliary to support arts-based wellness for veterans

By Office of the Provost & Executive Vice President - Bloomington

The American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Indiana is making a difference for Indiana’s veterans, and you can help! Indiana is home to more than 409,000 veterans who have served our country, and many have endured visible and invisible wounds from combat. Creative Arts for Vets (CAV) aims to support veterans, service members, and military-connected populations of all ages and abilities through the arts and arts-based approaches that promote connectedness and improve mental health and well-being.

Research shows that arts-based wellness can improve mindfulness, and reduce negative feelings associated with stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma.

Now, veterans across the state can access these activities through the new CAV Book, developed by the Center for Rural Engagement in partnership with the School of Social Work and Eskenazi Museum of Art, featuring arts-based wellness activities that can be completed at home or away.

Involvement in programs, like our fast-growing Creative Arts for Vets initiative, is just one example of how your gift can support programming, resources, and services for U.S. Military veterans and other military-connected populations through the Center for Rural Engagement.

“I needed a getaway, some time to quiet my mind from the issues and concerns at home and in the world. I could go to my happy place!” – A veteran who participated in Creative Arts for Vets

Together, we can create a healthier Indiana. Join us by making a gift to the Center for Rural Engagement Veterans Fund that helps Hoosiers thrive. Select your Indiana American Legion Auxiliary district and unit number to compete against other units in a friendly challenge that supports veterans.
