By Lilly Family School of Philanthropy

Educate future Muslim philanthropists. Help MPI make an impact by empowering individuals to create just and equitable societies. Your contribution will provide flexible funding to help MPI elevate its mission of creating access to knowledge through research and trainings.

Additional Info

Rampant poverty coupled with other social inequities plague the Muslim world. While philanthropy can address many of these challenges, Muslim nonprofits are often under resourced and their potential to create change is hindered by untrained staff. MPI addresses this lack of capacity by offering subsidized training to nonprofit professionals, equipping them with the tools they need to create change and address challenges. Prolific research by MPI’s team not only educates the Muslim philanthropic sector, but it also steers it toward making informed decisions and builds a repertoire of knowledge that is instrumental in helping it achieve its objectives and create impact.

Professional development training including fundraising training and workshops are conducted by MPI worldwide. They serve to build the capacity of nonprofit staff who otherwise cannot afford access to tools and resources they can employ to hone their fundraising skills and improve their organization’s performance to effectively accomplish their missions.
MPI has trained over 1,500 Muslim American nonprofit professionals between 2018-2023 and assisted them in attaining the Certificate of Fund Raising Management (CFRM) offered by The Fund Raising School at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University.

Key products of MPI’s research include:

  • Journal of Muslim Philanthropy and Society
  • The Muslim Humanitarian Review Journal
  • Muslim American Giving Study and the Zakat report
  • Muslim Philanthropy and Civil Society book series with Indiana University Press
  • Academic articles written in collaboration with other scholars

As an eminent thought leader, MPI convenes key constituents of the U.S. Muslim community to share insights and generate innovative ideas. The annual symposium on Muslim Philanthropy and Civil Society and the Philanthropy Roundtable are two main convenings.
