When founding Indiana University Press in 1950, Herman B Wells stated that “the Press will be an ultimate expression of the influence of the University in scientific and intellectual publishing. While thoroughly aware of its primary function—that of publishing the results of scholarly research—the Press will make every effort to balance its program with books in all fields of learning which will appeal to the intelligent general reader.”
Seventy-five years later, IU Press remains committed to Wells’ vision and its mission to inform and inspire scholars, students, and thoughtful general readers by disseminating ideas and knowledge of global significance, regional importance, and lasting value. In support of that mission, we produce more than 75 new books annually, in addition to 40 journals, and maintain a back list of some 3,500 titles—including many Open Access books and journals. Our major subject areas include African, Jewish and Holocaust, Middle East, and Russian and East European studies; gender and sexuality; film and media; folklore and ethnomusicology, and music. And in commitment to our region, we also publish titles that explore Indiana and the Midwest.
Your generous gift will support our mission, our work, our publications, and our IU community.
